About Us

A Brief History

Faculty of Science and Letters was established on 20.07.1982 within the scope of Akdeniz University as a “Mission Faculty” guided by Atatürk’s Principles and Revolutions, using fundamental scientific fields and putting them into practice resolutely began its educational activity as of 30.03.1983. Our faculty was decided to establish in line with the Decree of Council of Ministers numbered 2010/1058 which was put into force after being published in the official gazette numbered 27758 and dated 13 November 2010. The mission of our faculty which acted following the universal principles of social sciences and the concept of humanitas is to search for the truth (quare verum). Our faculty aims at providing educational activities, conducting scientific research, and raising scientists under the principle of rerum causas cognoscere (know the causes of things).
